As a species, we have a fantastic ability to sweep across a region, strip it of all possible resources, completely destroy the place and move on.  However, this behavior has not really been an issue for us throughout history and only seems to have raised its ugly head in the last 250 years or so.  Before this time we used the available resources of the planet fairly wisely.  As we continue to rape the living daylights out of our planet we will come to a precipice where we will either destroy it all or find a better way.
Interestingly it is usually when we are at the precipice that we have a renewed vigor for change.  Whatever we face we will change and adapt when we need to.  We are already at the precipice and must change for the better.  So what will this new world of sustainable living look like? It is usually when we are at the precipice that we have a renewed vigor for change. Share on X

Electrical power

solar panels Renewable energy generation systems are already here but we’re just not using them to the scale that we should be.  In the not too distant future expect to see shiny roofs on nearly every house as they are filled with solar panels.  Small towns and villages will expand their power generation with the use of wind turbines. Large cities that are close to desert regions will get their power from gigantic solar farms that use these super-hot regions for gathering power from the sun.  In regions that can support it, geothermal energy will be used for generating electricity.

Water conservation

the_future_of_sustainable_living-water_conservation We keep hearing large amounts of propaganda on main-stream media about how the planet is running out of fresh drinking water.  This propaganda drive is most likely coming from those private industries that are taking control of this natural resource, however, in the future, there will be very little waste allowed, including the wasting of water.  Massive reservoirs will be located near every major city to gather rainwater while houses will be equipped with rainwater harvesting systems. There will be a big emphasis on maintaining and expanding existing aquifers around the world.

Homes

the_future_of_sustainable_living-homes Homes will get smaller than they are now with an emphasis on saving money heating houses that are far too big for only a few people to be living in them.  We will see houses becoming more modular and manufactured, for the most part, in off-site factories.  This method of building is far cheaper and generates a lot less environmental waste than any traditional building method.

Cities

the_future_of_sustainable_living-cities The cities of the future will be purpose-built to take advantage of efficient design without the hassle of working around existing infrastructure and historical monuments.  The old cities will not be abandoned or left to go to ruin but a lot of people will opt for the fantastic, futuristic and efficient housing they will get in the new cities.  These new cities will be tied together will very fast transport networks and delivery systems that are outdated in our current society.

Food

the_future_of_sustainable_living-food Processed foods will become a thing of the past once people wake up to the dangers of consuming this trash.  Some people will choose to grow their own food in their gardens with the bulk of foods being grown locally in farms that are now a lot closer to cities.  Trading of extra produce will happen between cities in your own country rather than the current method of loading-up giant container ships destined for other countries as this would be seen as far too wasteful and environmentally damaging. All of this is more than achievable with our current infrastructure and can be done using The Venus Project model.  Don’t fear the future as it will be far better than our present.
