Throughout the history of zombie movies and TV shows there is only one that I can recall where animals could be turned into zombies – Resident Evil. In the movie Resident Evil: Apocalypse we saw several Rottweilers that had clearly turned. But would this be the case in the event of a realistic zombie apocalypse?
In my book Surviving a Realistic Zombie Apocalypse I don’t even consider the possibility of our beloved little fur-balls turning into little demon creatures and relentlessly attacking us because I can’t see how that would be possible.
For the purposes of this example we will assume that the zombie virus will act similar to rabies with regard to the changes it will make to our brains that causes us to go wild. When a dog with rabies bites you it will transmit the disease which in turn will seek out your brain as its new place of residence and then try to change things to suit its needs. Rabies wants to take full control of your brain in an attempt to force you to spread the virus by scratching or biting others.
The only problem with this transmission from dog to human is that rabies was able to reprogram the dog properly but can’t accomplish the same task with us because our brains are different.
When a zombie bites an animal it will do one of two things. It will either transmit the virus or not, depending on how the elites have created the zombie virus in the first place. If the virus could be transmitted to animals it might:
- Kill them quickly
- Make them slightly ill
- Make them very ill, to the point of madness
- Do nothing
